Bite-Size Chinese Medicine

Quick notes mostly about fitting old-world wisdom into a modern American life.

Good symptoms

Symptoms are a signal that something's wrong. But sometimes they're also a signal that things are going quite right.

Vomiting and diarrhea are primary mechanisms for the body to clear heat, toxins, and other pathogens.

A fever can be a cause of dehydration and a life-threatening condition if it reaches above a certain threshold. But it's also a positive sign that the body is strong enough to mount an attack.

Pain may be the first symptom of recovery from neuropathy (numbness).

And a headache may be a signal of recovery from serious illness. As vitality returns, finally there's energy enough to rush up to the head!

Remembering to celebrate good symptoms, instead of (or in addition to) treating them, is good medicine.
