Bite-Size Chinese Medicine

Quick notes mostly about fitting old-world wisdom into a modern American life.

Sickness gone or symptoms gone

Some traditional healing wisdom we've learned the hard way.

Our family has had a string of respiratory infections since August, starting with COVID-19 and the birth of our newest member in isolation.

Our problem isn’t symptom relief. Our problem is, we haven't been taking sufficient time and measures to recover.

It typically takes one to two weeks after symptoms resolve for the body's Qi to return to full strength and function.

During that time, one should stay in convalescent mode: get extra sleep, avoid wind and cold exposure, keep mental and physical activity to a minimum, eat light meals (volume and content).

For one to two weeks after symptoms resolve... (it bears repeating)

Symptoms gone ≠ sickness gone.
